Fast food champion Joey Chestnut broke his previous record by eating 76 hot dogs at Nathan’s annual competition, which is traditionally held on July 4 in New York.
This is Chestnat’s fourteenth victory in that competition, and the final result surpassed last year’s record, by one more hot dog.
If we turned Joey’s 76 hot dogs eaten into units of energy, that would mean the 37-year-old American consumed about 23,000 calories in 10 minutes.
However, the women performed worse this year in the Nathan competition, which has been held since 1972.
The winner was 37-year-old teacher Michelle Lesko of Arizona, who ate nearly 31 hot dogs, which is nearly 18 less than last year’s record.
