A week later an accident during the filming of “Rust” in which Alec Baldwin killed the cinematographer Halina Hutchins, firing a bullet from the props, was called in by gunner Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was in charge of the set’s weapons.
The 24-year-old made a statement through her lawyers stating that she is not to blame for Halina’s death, which Alec accidentally killed while rehearsing the shooting scene. Hana said she has no idea how the real bullets got to the shooting and blames all the producers for creating an unsafe environment.
“Safety is Hana’s priority on set. In the end, this set would never have been compromised had it not been for the actual bullet. Hana has no idea where the actual bullets came from,” the statement said.
“It was hard for him to train and have enough time to prepare for the shooting. But everything became uncertain due to several factors, including the lack of security meetings,” he continues.
Other team members also said the production was unsafe, and most of them blamed assistant director Dave Hals, who said he had been accused of security breaches in the past.
The investigation is ongoing and police say no one has yet been excluded from the investigation.
